Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is wanted by Sheffield United on a loan deal this summer
According to The Telegraph [subscription required] (h/t the Metro), Sheffield United are considering a loan move for Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri before the transfer deadline day.
The Blades have had a challenging start to their Premier League return, with no points from their first two games.
Manager Paul Heckingbottom is keen to strengthen his team’s attacking options and is said to be in discussions about bringing the South American talent in on loan.
Pellistri made his move to United in 2020 from Penarol. Since joining the Red Devils, he has made 12 appearances for the first team, with ten of those occurring last season.
The youngster spent a major chunk of his time on loan at the Spanish club Alaves, where he featured in 35 matches.
While his club-level achievements haven’t been remarkable, the 21-year-old is seen as a promising talent, particularly based on his 12 appearances for the Uruguayan national team, where he has showcased his quality.
The No. 28 has been the subject of loan rumours throughout the summer, and the final decision may rest with manager Erik ten Hag. Up until now, FC Twente and Sheffield have shown interest in the United star.
At present, the Red Devils have Antony as the clear first-choice right-wing starter. Pellistri has come off the bench to replace him in matches against Wolves and Tottenham.
While Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho can also play on the right flank, they haven’t appeared entirely comfortable in that position.
In our opinion, it would be wise for United to retain Pellistri at least until January. With Amad Diallo sidelined due to a knee injury, the club lacks specialised options in the attacking role.
The ultimate decision might hinge on Ten Hag. If the Dutch manager doesn’t believe that the young winger can secure regular playing time, United could opt to loan him out to Sheffield.
A temporary move to the Premier League could also prove advantageous for the South American sensation. It would offer him guaranteed playing time and an opportunity to contribute to goals.
