Liverpool eye Manchester United target and Torino defender Perr Schuurs
Torino defender Perr Schuurs is attracting interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool amidst links to Manchester United, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils had identified the Holland national as one of the targets to replace Harry Maguire. West Ham United had an offer accepted by the Old Trafford side for the England international. But in the end, a deal failed to materialise.
As things stand, Man United still have the former Ajax Amsterdam defender on their radar. However, it remains to be seen whether the club will make a move for him.
At the moment, Liverpool seem like the favourites to acquire the 23-year-old’s services in the ongoing transfer window. Jurgen Klopp is looking to add competition to his backline.
However, Schuurs will not come cheap. The centre-back enjoyed a fantastic debut season in Serie A. To that end, the Italian outfit will demand around £30 million to part ways with him this summer.
The Holland national made his way through the youth ranks at Ajax and developed under Erik ten Hag. Subsequently, last summer, the defender joined Torino. In the 2022/23 term, he made 30 appearances for Il Toro in the league.
At Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have started together in the first two fixtures of the new season. However, they have looked defensively shaky and have been unable to keep a clean sheet.
As for United, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have struggled to cope with the opposition in recent matches. However, the Red Devils’ engine room arguably needs to take some of the responsibility for our defensive fragility in the current campaign.

Schuurs is familiar with Ten Hag’s ideas and style of play. Therefore, one would think that the Holland national would seemingly fit in at the Old Trafford side. But will Liverpool pip us to his signature? Only time will tell.
