Raphael Varane is set to stay at Manchester United amid interest from Saudi Arabia
According to journalist Julien Laurens (h/t the Mirror), Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is set to stay at Manchester United amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
It was claimed that clubs from Saudi Arabia are circling around Varane’s signature in a bid to convince him to switch continents and move to Asia.
However, all such rumours are believed to be false and Varane is set to stay at United for the current season at least. It is good news for us given that the Frenchman is the best centre-back on our roster.
With his current contract ending in June 2025, it is believed that the situation will be given more leverage post the current season when there will be one year remaining.
The 30-year-old was a very exciting signing from Real Madrid when it happened but injuries have curtailed his time at United to be called average at best. However, the Frenchman alongside Lisandro Martinez is our best centre-back pairing and whenever one of them is injured or misses a game, the team does suffer from a drop in quality.
Therefore, it is good news for United fans that Varane is set to stay which could allow the club to invest further in the next season when there will be more clarity on the Frenchman’s future.
It could be a good season for Varane and United if he keeps himself injury-free and his early retirement from the international team will certainly help in that.
He scored the winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers and therefore can contribute to the other side of the field as well.
