Stade Rennais are eyeing Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof this summer
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is being eyed by Stade Rennais in the ongoing transfer window, according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins on Twitter.
The Ligue 1 outfit are interested in acquiring the services of the Sweden international this summer. To that end, the Brittany-based club have surveyed the potential signing of the centre-back.
As things stand, the French side have him on their shortlist. However, a deal for the 28-year-old seems difficult as he is happy at the Old Trafford side for now.
Rennes defender Arthur Theate is being linked with a move away from the club. The Belgium international was a key player for the Ligue 1 outfit in the previous campaign. In case of his departure, Lindelof is on the French outfit’s radar as a potential replacement.
United signed the Swedish national in the summer of 2017 from SL Benfica. Subsequently, the defender established himself in the Red Devils’ starting lineup after playing a backup role in his debut season.
Harry Maguire and Lindelof were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s go-to players in the backline. However, things have changed with the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the dugout.
The former Leicester City star has lost his influence in the team and has also been stripped of the captaincy. On the other hand, the Swedish national has been relegated to the bench as well.
However, Lindelof is the gaffer’s preferred option as the backup. Lisandro Martinez or Raphael Varane are the former Ajax Amsterdam head coach’s preferred duo in central defence. However, in the absence of either of them, the Dutch manager calls upon the former Benfica star.

Therefore, the Swedish national is still a key player for the Old Trafford side. But will the allure of regular first-team action entice the centre-back to move to Rennes in the coming weeks? Only time will tell.
