Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen defenders Marc Guehi and Edmond Tapsoba admired by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admires Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on GIVEMESPORT (h/t Express).
As things stand, a move for a new centre-back depends on the departure of Harry Maguire. The Red Devils had agreed a deal in principle with West Ham United. But the English national was not keen on the move.
However, it would not be a surprise to see the 30-year-old leave in the coming days, considering his position in the pecking order. In that case, the gaffer has a few names on his wishlist.
Guehi is one of the players ‘appreciated‘ by Ten Hag. The England international is also on the radar of Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old has been brilliant for Palace over the last few seasons. Having made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea, the defender has showcased a lot of potential at the Selhurst Park side. He is valued at around £50 million by the Eagles.
On the other hand, Tapsoba is also on Spurs’ radar. The centre-back joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2020. Since then, the Burkina Faso international has gone from strength to strength.
In the previous campaign, the 24-year-old was solid for Xabi Alonso’s team. Interested parties could get a hold of the defender’s signature for an amount close to £39 million.
At United, Ten Hag has trusted the duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez since last season. Victor Lindelof has been the gaffer’s preferred option. Maguire is also at the Dutch manager’s disposal for now, while Luke Shaw has also played in central defence on a few occasions in the last year.

Gueho and Tapsoba are two decent options to add reinforcements to the defence. However, as things stand, we seemingly have enough depth in the squad.
