Approaches made for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial this summer
Manchester United star Anthony Martial is attracting attention from other teams regarding a move in the ongoing transfer window.
The French national signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco. Unfortunately, over the years, the striker has been unable to fulfil his potential at the Old Trafford side. In the previous campaign, the 27-year-old was on the sidelines a lot.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano in his latest CaughtOffside column, United have received contact from interested parties regarding Martial. However, the club are yet to receive a concrete offer for him.
“Despite approaches and contacts, there’s still no formal bid on the table for Martial at this stage. Let’s see what happens until the end of the window.”
At the Old Trafford side, the French national has had his fair share of ups and downs. The striker showed glimpses of his potential in the 2019/20 term but has since been underwhelming.
In the 2021/22 season, Martial ended up leaving the Red Devils on loan and joined Sevilla in January. However, he was unable to make a big enough impact in Spain.
In the previous campaign, the French national did well when he was called upon. However, the striker was rarely available for Erik ten Hag to count on due to multiple fitness issues.
Subsequently, in January 2023, United signed Wout Weghorst to provide cover up front. Marcus Rashford was also deployed in the number nine position on several occasions.
Therefore, we arguably needed to add a new number nine this summer to our squad and bought Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. Unfortunately, the Danish national will be out of action for a few weeks.

In the opening two games of the season, goalscoring has been an issue for the Red Devils. We created a number of chances against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2-0 loss on 19 August but failed to capitalise. It remains to be seen whether Martial will be sold and another striker will be signed by the club.
