Goncalo Inacio set to sign new Sporting CP contract amidst Manchester United interest

Manchester United target Goncalo Inacio is set to extend his stay at Sporting CP and sign a new contract soon, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The centre-back has reached an agreement regarding securing his future at the Primerira Liga outfit. To that end, the Portugal international will sign long-term fresh terms at the Leoes.

In the recent past, the Red Devils have considered acquiring the services of the defender, according to O Jogo (h/t Evening Standard). However, it looks like the 21-year-old will stay at the Lisbon-based club for the time being.

Inacio is one of the most promising talents in his country and has been linked with a move to the Premier League. But after the defender puts pen to a new deal, it will not be easy to get a hold of his signature due to a €60 million release clause.

The Portuguese made his way through the youth ranks at Sporting CP and has been a key player for their senior squad since the 2020/21 term. Subsequently, the centre-back has established himself in the Leoes’ starting lineup.

At United, the backline is stacked with enough bodies at the moment. Erik ten Hag has relied on the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane for some time now.

Victor Lindelof has also been the gaffer’s preferred backup option in the defence. For now, the Dutch manager also has Harry Maguire at his disposal. Luke Shaw is also capable of being deployed centrally at the back.

Therefore, it does not seem like we need Inacio in our ranks for the time being. It remains to be seen how the Portuguese will develop further at Sporting CP and whether the Old Trafford side will make a move for him in the coming future.
