Harry Maguire snubs West Ham United transfer due to Manchester United belief

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is settled at the club and has snubbed the chance to join West Ham United this summer.

The Hammers had a £30 million proposal accepted by the Old Trafford side for the England international. However, it looks like the London Stadium side have been unable to convince the centre-back to join them in the ongoing transfer window.

Speaking via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, sources close to the defender have stated that he is happy at the Red Devils. The 30-year-old believes he will get an opportunity to get back into the team.

“Harry respects West Ham — but there was never an agreement on personal terms. Harry remains settled at United, loves the club and believes he will get plenty of opportunities to play.”

West Ham are set to play in the Europa League this season after winning the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2022/23 term. Their defence consists of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd, as things stand.

Man United signed Maguire in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. Subsequently, the centre-back was handed the captain’s armband a few months later by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, the English national has made plenty of errors in the Red Devils’ backline for some time now. As a result, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford side’s dugout, the defender has lost his influence in the starting lineup.

Harry Maguire has been a bit-part player under Erik ten Hag.

In the previous campaign, the gaffer relied on the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the backline. The two World Cup winners have formed a solid partnership at the Manchester-based club.

Victor Lindelof also seems to be ahead of Maguire in the pecking order. The Swedish national came off the bench to replace Martinez in our 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers while United’s former captain sat on the bench.

Therefore, it is evident that the English national has a lot of work to do in order to get back into the team. Whether the centre-back will be able to do that remains to be seen.
