Manchester United are keen to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as an alternative to Sofyan Amrabat

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are considering the possibility of making a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana during this transfer window.

Erik ten Hag would be keen on bolstering the team to continue the rebuilding process this summer. The Red Devils have already made high-profile signings, including Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund.

There are indications that the club is looking to sign a defensive midfielder to provide cover for Casemiro and also act as a replacement for the departing Fred. Numerous players have been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford in the past few months, with Sofyan Amrabat emerging as a primary target.

Yet, as stated by the Daily Mail, securing the signature of the Moroccan midfielder won’t be a simple task for Man United, as Juventus are also considering making a move for him.

Hence, the Red Devils are exploring the possibility of acquiring Everton midfielder Onana as a backup plan if they are unable to successfully entice Amrabat during this summer transfer window.

The former Lille midfielder moved to Goodison Park in August 2022 and was a mainstay in a Toffees side that narrowly avoided relegation last season. He made 33 Premier League appearances, and his contribution was vital to helping them get over the line.

Although still young, the Belgian star has all the qualities to become a future star, and his performances with the Toffees have been encouraging lately.

With a combination of strength, speed, and athleticism, he stands out as an emerging midfielder in the Premier League. Onana is not only adept at aggressive tackling but also excels at progressing the ball across the field. He could offer Ten Hag a strategic alternative in the central midfield area due to his box-to-box style of play.

However, it won’t be easy to secure his services, as the 21-year-old still has four years left on his present contract. The Merseyside club holds a favourable position to ask for an attractive fee.

As a result, should United decide to pursue Onana this summer, they will need to make a significant financial investment due to Everton’s strong bargaining position.

In our opinion, this situation can be tackled by making sure the English giants get their hands on Amrabat, which is a much cheaper and more experienced alternative.

The Moroccan midfielder would fit United’s current financial choices, and it makes sense to go after a player who has previously played under Ten Hag.

Everything rests on the pace of negotiations, as the volatile nature of the transfer market could turn things dramatically if not planned well.
