Christian Eriksen spoke to Manchester United and Rasmus Hojlund before transfer
Manchester United star Christian Eriksen spoke to Erik ten Hag about Rasmus Hojlund before the club signed him from Atalanta this summer.
The Denmark international is set to play alongside his compatriot at the Old Trafford side in the 2023/24 term. After the 20-year-old’s arrival, he revealed that the midfielder played a key role in the transfer.
Speaking on the club’s official website, Eriksen admitted that he had a conversation with the powers that be at the Red Devils as well as the striker before the move.
“Of course, I’ve spoken to the manager about Rasmus before and I’ve spoken to Rasmus about the club so in that way, of course, I’ve told him all the stuff about the club and then obviously I still told him at the time it was his decision to see where he wanted to go and where he could see himself. And then, luckily, it was here.”
In the ongoing transfer window, United evidently needed to add a new number nine to their ranks. Anthony Martial was the only natural striker at our disposal before the arrival of Hojlund.
On top of that, the French national has been on the sidelines a lot in the last year. He has consistently picked up injuries and Erik ten Hag has been unable to rely on the former AS Monaco star.
Therefore, the arrival of the Danish national will arguably be a big boost for our forward line. However, the striker is still young and raw and needs to develop further.
United signed Eriksen in the summer of 2022 as a free agent after his successful stint at Brentford. The midfielder formed an impressive duo with Casemiro in the middle of the park in the previous campaign.
Hojlund was decent for Atalanta last season, with 10 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions. However, the youngster has shone for his national team in recent matches and has found the back of the net six times in six caps.
