Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag insists he is happy with the signing of Rasmus Hojlund over Harry Kane
While speaking to ESPN writer Rob Dawson, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has admitted that he is happy that the club went for Rasmus Hojlund instead of Harry Kane as the preferred striker option.
It was evident even before the previous season ended that United need an out-and-out centre forward and the club entered the market with solving the striker issue as one of the priorities.
Ten Hag was apparently keen to land Harry Kane to Old Trafford, who had one year left on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the costs involved in the transfer along with the major issue of Daniel Levy’s reluctance to send Kane to a direct Premier League rival hindered hopes of such a move. Hojlund joined us for £72million from Atalanta while Bayern Munich seem set to pay over £100million for Kane.
Eventually, Kane has moved to Germany to sign for FC Bayern Munich while United went all out to sign a young talented prodigy in Hojlund from Atalanta.
Ten Hag believes the club made the right choice in choosing Hojlund over Kane who, on paper, are two completely different profiles which show the direction in which the club wants to go in the future.
“We have chosen a striker and we are really happy with our choice.
[Kane] is a great striker, a goal maker and apart from that he has all the conditions and abilities that you want to see in a striker. It’s a miss for the Premier League, absolutely.
We are professional and the processes we do are really careful. We consider a lot of things but finally, we make decisions, but not overnight. We study every decision and we are happy with the squad we have behind us now.”
While Kane would have been a ready-made player who could have instantly elevated us, signing Kane would have resulted in the club searching for a striker again in the coming 2-3 years.
With Hojlund, if he is developed well and turns his enormous potential into becoming an absolute superstar, United would have a striker on their hands for the foreseeable future.
It is good to invest in the young talent with huge potential who could become world-class players in the future and it is a deviation from the policy adopted by the club in recent years.

Hojlund is suffering from a small injury and will not feature in the upcoming Premier League games so we all have to wait a little longer to watch our new striker playing for the club.
