Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has said yes to Manchester United transfer
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Sofyan Amrabat has signalled his approval to join Manchester United this summer, and the club is preparing to submit a formal offer to Fiorentina.
As per the journalist, Amrabat has garnered attention from United and Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli following his impressive performances for Morocco in the World Cup and helping his parent club reach the Europa Conference League final.
With one year left on his current contract and a potential 12-month extension option, there were suggestions that the midfielder might stay in Italy beyond the summer transfer window after Fiorentina’s 4-0 pre-season friendly win against Grosseto at the Olimpico Stadium yesterday.
However, transfer expert Romano has dismissed the quotes suggesting that Amrabat could stay at Fiorentina as “fake.” He confirms that the player is determined to make a move to Man United, as he has set his sights on a switch to Old Trafford.
He said on his official YouTube handle:
“I’m told from very very reliable sources that Amrabat didn’t say anything about his future. Amrabat wants to go, Amrabat wants to leave and play for Manchester United. So, he said yes to Man United already at the end of June when the negotiations started.”
“The green light is already there from the player, there is no problem on personal terms. Amrabat wants to stay in Europe. No official bid yet. Man United and Fiorentina will talk soon. United will first sell Fred.”
The Red Devils are yet to officially submit a bid for the defensive midfielder. However, they are planning to do so shortly, but it depends on either Fred or Donny van de Beek leaving the club first.
Fred is a target for Galatasaray, while Real Sociedad have approached United for Van de Beek.
Fiorentina might demand approximately £30- £35 million for Amrabat, which is the same figure mentioned earlier in July when the 26-year-old expressed his desire to leave the Italian club.
United have made significant signings this summer, securing a creative midfielder, a goalkeeper, and are now close to signing a striker. The club’s next two priorities are believed to be a defensive midfielder and a central defender.
Amrabat has been identified as the ideal fit for the defensive midfielder role, and he has already agreed to personal terms with United. Now, it is up to the club to finalise the deal.
However, in our opinion, the Red Devils are unlikely to meet Fiorentina’s price tag for the African star. It would be fantastic if they could wrap up the deal below the stated asking fee.
United may consider including bonuses to go as high as €30m in their bid for Amrabat. Signing him would be an excellent addition to the club, providing genuine competition for Casemiro.
In contrast to McTominay and Fred, who have lacked consistency in challenging the Brazilian star, Amrabat has been playing at his best level. The 26-year-old played in 49 matches and assisted one goal for the Italian outfit last season.
He possesses strong distribution skills, excellent ball control, and is adept at breaking up play with crucial tackles. Additionally, his tremendous work rate over the course of 90 minutes makes him an asset to any team.
The defensive midfielder’s arrival at Old Trafford would ensure that the club has two elite holding midfielders in their squad, bolstering their options in that crucial position.
