Lisandro Martinez encourages Andre Onana and Harry Maguire Manchester United incident
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has encouraged the spat Andre Onana and Harry Maguire had during the loss against Borussia Dortmund.
The Cameroonian shot-stopper was not pleased with the England international and expressed his emotions early in the second half at the Allegiant Stadium. In the 3-2 defeat on 31 July, the 27-year-old goalkeeper was not too keen after some shabby play from the 30-year-old centre-back.
Speaking to the media Manchester Evening News, Martinez, 25, has no problem seeing his teammates argue for the betterment of the team. The Argentine centre-back has backed Onana in the incident.
“It’s better for it, it’s better for it. If you are focused, you can fight with your teammates as well, you need to make sure everyone is really sharp, but nothing happened. It’s part of football.
“He (Onana) has a big personality, he can play football, he can deal with the pressure, he’s really positive, he’s a leader. That’s the style of Manchester United.”
United took the lead in the game against BVB through Diogo Dalot. Unfortunately, the Red Devils slipped up just before halftime and were a goal down going into the break.
At the start of the second half, Onana replaced Tom Heaton. The Cameroonian had to make a couple of saves early on due to some shabby play between Maguire and Christian Eriksen.
Antony equalised for the Old Trafford side in the 52nd minute. At the hour mark, Erik ten Hag rang in multiple changes. The former Leicester City star went off the field and Martinez was handed some minutes.
Unfortunately, United looked disjointed after the substations. As a result, Youssoufa Moukoko was able to restore Dortmund’s lead in the 71st minute.
Maguire looks to be short on confidence as things stand. His performances at the Old Trafford side in recent months have been and the centre-back has recently lost the captaincy. The defender was replaced by Martinez in the starting lineup last season. Hopefully, the incident with Onana will not further hurt the English national.

However, it was encouraging to see the Cameroonian’s passion on the field. The 27-year-old has admirably commanded the box in the two appearances he has made so far during pre-season.
