Manchester United to join Liverpool and Chelsea in the wings to rival Manchester City for Josko Gvardiol
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are waiting in the wings to rival Manchester City for the signature of Josko Gvardiol.
City have been linked with the Croatian international for some time now. However, a few days, ago, RB Leipzig chief revealed that they are under no pressure to sell the defender after Liverpool signing Dominik Szoboszlai got their financial state in order for the summer.
Pep Guardiola’s men are now given a deadline of August 12 if they are to continue with the pursuit of the 21-year-old.
If their attempt continues to stall, United, Chelsea and Liverpool are ready to pounce on the opportunity. Not sure either of the three have that much to spend on a player though because signing Gvardiol would cost £86m.
It is no secret that United were interested in signing a centre-back this summer. There was a reason why they had Kim Min-jae as one of the top targets. But, the South Korean joined Bayern Munich instead.
Since then, Erik ten Hag added Jonny Evans on a short-term deal after he was training with the squad following his release from Leicester City at the end of last season.
It remains to be seen whether the veteran would be offered a season-long deal or he will only be with the squad until the end of the pre-season.

If the Red Devils want to raise funds to attempt the Gvardiol signing, they should try and complete the sale of Harry Maguire soon. The England international seems out of place here. The club did the right thing by rejecting a £20m bid from West Ham United. He is of more value than that regardless of the form at club level.
