Everton have joined the race for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire
According to TEAMtalk (h/t Manchester Evening News), Everton have joined the race for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
Maguire (30) has been attracting interest from a host of clubs after he was stripped of the club’s captaincy last month with many speculating that England International will be on their way out.
United are not in a rush to sell the player and would be willing to listen to offers which would be close to their £50m valuation of the player.
So far, only West Ham United have made an offer for the player which was duly rejected for being far below the expected fee for the player by the club.
Now it seems that another Premier League club Everton has joined the race for Maguire and could be set to test United’s resilience with a bid in the coming days.
Maguire has fallen down the pecking order following the appointment of Erik Ten Hag who does not see the player as suited for his style of play.
It is not that the club is actively trying to push the player away from the club but have been giving subtle signals of the importance that the player now holds in the team.
While being stripped of the captaincy armband some weeks ago, Scott Mctominay was favoured over Maguire as the team’s captain for the first half against Borussia Dortmund in the pre-season friendly which signifies that Ten Hag really does not rate the defender.
On the other hand, Euros 2024 Championship is not that far away and Maguire needs to be consistently playing in order to stand a chance to be selected by Gareth Southgate, which does not seem likely if he remains at United.

It does feel like the best option for all parties involved to part ways and with Everton showing interest, it could lead to a bidding war near the end of the transfer window for Maguire, which is good news as it would help in increasing the fee for the player.
