Premier League rivals Aston Villa are in the race to acquire the services of Manchester United shot-stopper Matej Kovar, according to Czech outlet Idnes (h/t Mirror).

The Villans are interested in getting a hold of the goalkeeper’s signature this summer. However, the Red Devils are looking to send him out on loan once again.

To that end, Championship outfit Hull City and La Liga side Cadiz have the 23-year-old on their radar. However, it remains to be seen what the future will hold for him in the coming weeks.

United signed Kovar in January 2018. Subsequently, the goalkeeper played heavily for the Red Devils’ youth sides. Over the years, he has gone out on loan to the likes of Swindon Town and Burton Albion.

Last summer, the Czech Republic national joined Sparta Prague on a season-long loan. He was their first choice and made 32 appearances in all competitions, keeping 11 clean sheets.

The Letna Stadium side wanted Kovar once again this summer. However, they were unable to come to an agreement with the Old Trafford side for the shot-stopper.

At United, Andre Onana has been signed this summer after the departure of David de Gea at the end of last month. The Cameroonian will seemingly be the number one going into the 2022/23 term.

Tom Heaton has also featured heavily for the Red Devils during pre-season and looks to be the second choice for now. We also have the likes of Dean Henderson and Nathan Bishop in our ranks as things stand.

Kovar has not played much during the friendlies this summer. At his age, the Czech national arguably needs regular first-team action to develop. Therefore, it would evidently be wise for the goalkeeper to part ways with the Old Trafford side in the coming weeks. But Villa already have an established number one in Emiliano Martinez in their ranks.
