Bayern Munich not interested in former Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea
Former Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea is not being ‘considered’ by Bayern Munich in the ongoing transfer window, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.
The Spaniard became a free agent after his contract with the Old Trafford side expired at the end of last month. Now, the veteran goalkeeper is looking to start a new chapter in his career.
To that end, De Gea was offered to the Bavarians recently. As things stand, the Bundesliga giants are looking at a number of options to bolster their goalkeeping department.
However, the Allianz Arena side are not interested in the Spaniard. His salary is too high for the German outfit and the 32-year-old is not seen as a second choice behind Manuel Neuer.
United signed De Gea in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid. He took over the number one spot from the iconic Edwin van der Sar. Subsequently, the Spaniard became a key player for us. Over the years at the Old Trafford side, he developed into one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.
The 32-year-old won several Player of the Year awards at the Red Devils. Unfortunately, the game seemed to pass him by in recent seasons. Under Erik ten Hag, the veteran goalkeeper looked uncomfortable.
De Gea was the first choice in between the sticks for the Dutch manager last season. The former Atletico star put in some impressive displays and pulled off some brilliant saves. He ended up winning the Premier League Golden Glove in the 2022/23 term.
Yet, despite that, the Spaniard left a lot to be desired on occasions with his distribution and the ball at his feet. Now, we have Andre Onana in our ranks, who looks composed in possession.

Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world. De Gea is arguably still capable enough of playing at the top. But where will the 32-year-old’s career take him next? Only time will tell.
