PSG midfielder Xavi Simons attracting interest from Manchester United
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Xavi Simons is attracting interest from Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window, according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi on Twitter (h/t Express).
The Holland international returned to the Parc des Princes side after they triggered the buy-back clause in his PSV Eindhoven deal. Now, the Parisians are looking to send him out on loan ahead of next season.
To that end, the Red Devils are ‘serious suitors’ for the youngster. The Old Trafford side are in the running to acquire the 20-year-old’s services. However, RB Leipzig are expected to get a hold of his signature.
Simons made his way through the youth ranks at Barcelona before making his way to PSG. But after failing to break into the first-team setup at the Ligue 1 outfit, the youngster joined PSV in the summer of 2022.
At the Eredivisie outfit, the midfielder thrived. He enjoyed a fruitful spell at the Eindhoven-based club, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.
The 20-year-old mostly played as a number 10 or on the left wing at the Philips Stadion side. However, at PSG, he will have to compete with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar to get a place up front.
Therefore, it is understandable that the Parc des Princes side are looking to loan Simons out to further his development. With United’s limited budget this summer, it would seemingly not be a bad deal for us to get the Holland national to add depth to the attack.
But a place in United’s starting lineup on a regular basis is not guaranteed either for the 20-year-old. Erik ten Hag has the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho at his disposal.
