West Ham United hold ‘tentative interest’ in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire
Premier League rivals West Ham United hold ‘tentative interest’ in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire this summer, according to the Independent (h/t Manchester Evening News).
As things stand, the centre-back faces an uncertain future at the Old Trafford side. To that end, the Hammers are eyeing a move for the England international in the ongoing transfer window.
At the moment, the Red Devils are willing to part ways with the 30-year-old in the coming weeks. However, the £50 million price tag on his head could potentially act as a stumbling block in a potential transfer.
Yet, a number of teams in the English top flight have been linked with Maguire. The Irons are also in pursuit of the defender but want to sign him on loan.
United got a hold of the 30-year-old’s signature in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. He immediately became a key player for the Old Trafford side.
Unfortunately, over the last few seasons, the centre-back’s performances have been below par. Subsequently, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, the English national has lost his place in the starting lineup.
In the previous campaign, the gaffer relied on Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as the preferred pairing in the backline. The French and Argentine nationals have formed a solid partnership at United.
As a result, Maguire has lost his influence in the team and has become a bit-part player. Victor Lindelof was also trusted more by the Dutch manager last season. The former Ajax head coach even played Luke Shaw as a centre-back instead of the former Leicester star on a few occasions.

Despite Maguire’s fall from grace at the Red Devils, he is still a regular for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions. West Ham will be playing in the Europa League in the upcoming campaign. They could evidently use someone with the 30-year-old’s experience.
