Manchester City join Manchester United in Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard race
Manchester United have been joined by Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.
The Sky Blues have the France international on their radar in the ongoing transfer window. As things stand, the Cityzens have become a serious option for the right-back.
Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of his. The Spanish manager likes the 27-year-old’s versatility. He is capable of being deployed in different positions in the backline.
For now, Pavard has made a decision to leave the Bavarians this summer. His current contract expires next summer (transfermarkt). But City are not the only team eyeing the French national and he has other concrete options.
The Red Devils have already held talks regarding the 2018 World Cup winner. On the other hand, Juventus are also looking to acquire the defender’s services. To that end, the Bundesliga giants are anticipating an offer in the coming weeks.
Bayern signed Pavard in the summer of 2019 from VfB Stuttgart. Subsequently, the French national has been a key player for the Bundesliga giants ever since.
The 27-year-old has alternated between the right-back and centre-back positions over the years at the Allianz Arena side. He has won multiple league titles and the Champions League with the Bavarians.
City have relied on Kyle Walker for several years now. However, Bayern are interested in the England international and he has already agreed terms with the German outfit.

As for United, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the two options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal. The Portuguese and the former Crystal Palace star both were handed opportunities by the gaffer last season and put in some decent shifts.
Therefore, for now, the right-hand side of our defence has enough depth. Therefore, will City steam ahead in their pursuit of Pavard? Only time will tell.
