Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha reveals why the club must sign Sofyan Amrabat
Louis Saha believes Manchester United should sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as he would improve the balance of the squad.
United are looking to rejig their midfield a bit with Fred expected to leave. An offer from Galatasaray was rebuffed by the club as it was low. We may expect a few bids for the Brazilian this summer.
Scott McTominay, on the other hand, could be a West Ham United target once the Declan Rice sale to Arsenal is official. The Independent revealed that the departure of the Scotsman might allow United to sign Amrabat.
Here’s what Saha said about what the Moroccan international would bring to Old Trafford (h/t Betfred, via Manchester Evening News):
“Manchester United could benefit from the addition of another midfielder because you hear rumours that Fred or Scott McTominay could leave the club this summer.
“Amrabat is a player that I really like and he’s got a great intensity level that I don’t believe is matched. It would be exciting to see him at United and he would improve the overall balance of the squad.”
If United manage to sell McTominay and use that money to get Amrabat, it would be a positional upgrade of the highest order.
As decent a footballer as the former is, the latter is better than him when it comes to bringing quality both on and off the ball.
People talk about how good Amrabat was in the World Cup. But, that is a small sample of the size of games to judge a player on. He has been consistently good for Fiorentina recently as well.
The 26-year-old is a defensive monster who reads the game well, can intercept passes, is strong in tackles and wins his aerial duels. Although he keeps things simple on the ball, he does possess a wicked through ball to pierce through the opposition’s defence.
