Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana ‘inching closer’ to Manchester United transfer
Manchester United are ‘inching closer’ to acquiring the services of Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Erik ten Hag has identified the Cameroonian as the leading candidate to replace David de Gea. The Spaniard has parted ways with the Red Devils after his contract expired at the end of last month.
As things stand, the Old Trafford side have held encouraging discussions with the Nerazzurri in recent weeks regarding a move for the 27-year-old. While the two parties are yet to reach a consensus regarding the fee, there is optimism at the club regarding the deal.
Onana recently reported to Inter’s training centre for the first day of pre-season. However, United are hopeful that the shot-stopper will accompany the rest of the Red Devils’ squad on the US tour.
The Cameronian made his way through the youth ranks at Ajax Amsterdam. Erik ten Hag was a big part of the player’s development and the two enjoyed several fruitful years at the Eredivisie outfit.
However, the 27-year-old joined the Nerazzurri as a free agent last summer. The goalkeeper caught a lot of people’s attention with his performances at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side.
With De Gea gone, Man United do not have a lot of options to count on in between the sticks. Tom Heaton was called upon to start against Leeds United in our recent friendly. Matej Kovar also featured in the 2-0 victory.
While we have Dean Henderson in our ranks, he is on the sidelines at the moment. However, the English national is expected to be sold to Nottingham Forest once Onana’s signing becomes official.
