Erik ten Hag yet to make decision on Manchester United future of Amad Diallo
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is yet to make a decision on the future of Amad Diallo and needs more time to come to a conclusion.
The Ivory Coast international featured in the Red Devils’ first pre-season match against Leeds United on 12 August in Oslo, Norway. In the 2-0 victory, the 21-year-old started and played the first 45 minutes before being substituted at half-time.
Speaking to the i (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ten Hag was asked about Amad’s immediate future, but the gaffer needs more time to make a call on whether the youngster will stay or leave this summer.
“You don’t make conclusions after one week.”
United signed the Ivorian in the winter window of 2020 from Atalanta. After being handed a few opportunities initially, the forward found himself on the bench most often in the 2021/22 season.
Subsequently, in January 2022, the 21-year-old joined Rangers on loan. Unfortunately, his experience in Scotland was one to forget.
Then, last summer, Sunderland came knocking to get a hold of Amad. Thankfully, the forward’s experience in the Championship was fruitful in the previous campaign. He was a regular in Tony Mowbray’s team and scored 14 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats.
At United, Erik ten Hag relied on Antony on the right wing last season. The Brazil international had a mixed first year in Manchester. Injuries hampered the 23-year-old’s progress a bit in the previous campaign.
The Dutch manager also has Jadon Sancho at his disposal. However, the gaffer preferred playing the English national on the right-hand side of the attack. But we also have Alejandro Garnacho capable of playing in that position.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Ten Hag will decide to trust Amad and give him opportunities next season. If not, then it would be wise to send the Ivorian out on another loan to further his development.
