Serie A giants reject player plus cash bid from Manchester United for Scandinavian attacker

Atalanta reject players plus cash deal from Manchester United from Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United have failed in persuading Atalanta to accept players in a part-exchange deal for Rasmus Hojlund, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required).

The Red Devils are interested in acquiring the services of the Denmark international in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Old Trafford side have held talks with the Bergamo-based club for the 20-year-old.

However, United have in their attempt to offer players plus cash for the youngster, with the Italian outfit not interested in a swap deal. La Dea want to be paid a fee for the striker in full.

As things stand, the Red Devils are trying to manage their funds. As a result, the Old Trafford side offered players and even proposed loans to Atalanta to reduce the burden of the transfer sum in their pursuit of Hojlund.

La Dea signed the Danish national last summer from Sturm Graz. The forward was decent in his debut season in Italy. However, the £85.5 million price tag the Bergamo-based club have placed on his head seems excessive.

However, United are not the only team interested in the 20-year-old. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and French giants Paris Saint-Germain could also enter the race as they are in search of a number nine as well.

At the Old Trafford side, Erik ten Hag evidently needs to bolster the striking department. Anthony Martial was unreliable in the gaffer’s first year in charge at the Red Devils. The French national was on the sidelines on most occasions.

In January, the Dutch manager was provided Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley as a cover up front. The former Ajax Amsterdam head coach also relied heavily on Marcus Rashford to find the back of the net.

Hopefully, the hierarchy at United will provide Ten Hag with the funds to get a quality number nine. However, Hojlund is still young and inexperienced. But it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will end up signing him.
