Newcastle United agree personal terms with AS Monaco defender and Manchester United target Axel Disasi
Premier League rivals Newcastle United have agreed personal terms with AS Monaco defender and Manchester United target Axel Disasi, according to FootballTransfers (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Old Trafford side and the Tyneside outfit have been linked with the centre-back. However, the Magpies have leapfrogged the Red Devils in the race to acquire the services of the France international in the ongoing transfer window.
As things stand, the Ligue 1 outfit want £40–£50 million this summer to part ways with the 25-year-old. To that end, it remains to be seen whether the St James’ Park side will match the valuation.
Monaco signed Disasi in the summer of 2020 from Stade Reims. Since then, the French national has been a key player in the Red and Whites’ starting lineup.
In the previous campaign, the defender was once again pivotal to the Stade Louis-II side’s plans. The Ligue 1 outfit made it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and finished sixth in the league table in the 2022/23 term.
As for Newcastle, they will be playing in the Champions League next season. Howe has done an exceptional job at the Tyneside outfit and relied on Sven Botman and Fabian Schar as his centre-back pairing in the previous campaign.
On the other hand, Erik ten Hag counted on the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. The Dutch manager trusted the two World Cup winners and they repaid the gaffer’s faith.
Unfortunately, towards the end of the 2022/23 term, the Argentine and French nationals picked up injuries. While Victor Lindelof put in a decent shift, Harry Maguire made some costly errors.

Therefore, we could evidently add more quality in depth to our ranks at the back. Disasi is a quality defender. However, will Newcastle pip the Old Trafford side to his signature? It remains to be seen.
