Manchester United’s potential signing of Andre Onana could lead to Dean Henderson making a permanent move away
According to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United’s pursuit of Andre Onana is getting closer and a deal with Inter Milan is close to completion.
David De Gea has left the club after twelve wonderful years with Onana set to replace him as the club’s new no.1 as Erik Ten Hag is keen to reunite with the Cameroonian, whom he coached at Ajax and gave him his first-team debut.
At the same time, the issue surrounding the backup goalkeeper is yet to be resolved with Dean Henderson also speculated to be on the move once a deal for Onana is formalised. The report says the 26-year-old England international is ‘likely’ to be moved on this summer as he wants regular playing time.
Henderson was given the first-team debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it felt that the English International would be the heir to De Gea’s throne.
However, he was not able to grasp the opportunity with both hands and with constant injury issues, De Gea regained his place as the club’s no.1 choice.
Now, with De Gea gone, Henderson could have been provided with another golden opportunity but it seems like the player as well as the manager are keen to part ways.
Henderson has shown no inclination towards fighting for his place at United while the club are also looking at alternate options such as Urawa Red Diamonds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to be the no.2 at Old Trafford.
On the other hand, player sales are very important for the club to raise much-needed funds which could be used to strengthen the squad and Henderson provides one of the best options currently at the club to raise some money.
