As revealed by the club’s official website, new Manchester United signing Mason Mount has quickly become friends with his former adversary Lisandro Martinez as he adjusts to life in Manchester.

The midfielder finalised his transfer from Chelsea to United on Wednesday, signing a five-year contract with the option for an additional year.

The Red Devils agreed to an initial fee of £55 million for Mount, potentially rising by an additional £5m through add-ons. The 24-year-old is United’s first signing in the current summer transfer window, with the club also actively seeking a goalkeeper and striker.

On Friday, the English star joined his new teammates at Carrington for his inaugural training session.

While not all United players have returned for pre-season due to their involvement in June internationals, those who didn’t participate were present, including Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek, who has recently recovered from long-term injuries.

There were speculations of potential awkwardness between Mount and Martinez ahead of their first meeting. They clashed during a Premier League match last season.

The incident occurred during the 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Man United at Stamford Bridge in October. Following a tussle for the ball, a foul was given against Mount, resulting in a temporary stoppage of play.

In response, Martinez pushed the former Blues star in the chest, provoking an angry reaction from the English midfielder. Mount then confronted the Argentine directly before his international teammate Luke Shaw swiftly intervened to separate the two players.

Fortunately, the first meeting between the two players at Carrington was free of any hatred. On the contrary, it seemed that a strong bond had already formed between the two players, leading to a budding bromance.

In a video released by the club, Martinez playfully references their previous altercation and gestures for Mount to join him in a hug.

He said: “Come, my brother. Before we fight, now we love each other.” And Mount replied by saying: “Together now!”

The fans are delighted to see the two players embrace each other and put all their past issues aside. It appears that there are no lingering hard feelings from Martinez; in fact, the defender shows respect towards the English midfielder.

Both players seemed to have a very good bond, as Mount spent a lot of time with the Argentine star in training.

We are already excited to see both players work their magic on the field. After all, there are teammates now, and they have to fight for one goal: winning trophies for Man United.
