Inter Milan deny transfer talks for Lautaro Martinez amidst Manchester United links
Javier Zanetti, the vice president of Inter Milan, has denied holding talks with any club for Manchester United-linked Lautaro Martinez this summer.
The Argentina international has been tentatively associated with the Red Devils. However, as things stand, the forward is not on the Old Trafford side’s shortlist. Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster the attack in the ongoing transfer window.
Speaking to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Zanetti, who spent almost his entire playing career at the Serie A giants, believes the 25-year-old striker is content at the Italian outfit.
“Lautaro is very happy at Inter. There is nothing with other clubs.”
Inter signed Martinez in the summer of 2018 from Racing Club. The Argentine has developed into one of the best forwards in Italy over the years.
At the moment, the 25-year-old has three years left on his current contract at the Nerazzurri. The striker was one of the key players for the Serie A giants as they got their hands on the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years in 2021.
In the previous campaign, Martinez made it to the Champions League final with Inter. Unfortunately, the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side lost 1-0 to Manchester City, with the Sky Blues completing the treble.
At United, Erik ten Hag did not have the best options at his disposal up front last season. The gaffer was unable to count on Anthony Martial due to his constant fitness issues.
The Red Devils signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in January. Unfortunately, it was an uninspiring addition to the squad. But the Dutch manager still managed to help us win the Carabao Cup, reach the FA Cup final and finish third in the league.
