Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana attracting serious interest from Manchester United
Manchester United are the only club ‘seriously interested’ in signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan this summer as things stand, according to Sky Italia.
In the coming days, it will be known whether the Red Devils plan to make a move for the Cameroonian in the ongoing transfer window.
To that end, the Nerazzurri already have a backup option on their radar. The Serie A giants are eyeing Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as a potential replacement for the 27-year-old.
Inter signed Onana as a free agent in the summer of 2022. The shot-stopper has replaced long-time number one Samir Handanovic in between the sticks for the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza Stadium side.
The Cameroonian has caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays, especially in the Champions League. Simone Inzaghi’s team made it to the final but lost to Manchester City. However, the 27-year-old left with his head held high.
Onana developed and grew under Erik ten Hag at Ajax Amsterdam. The Cameroonian was a key player for the Dutch manager during his stint in the Eredivisie.
At United, the gaffer has had to rely on David de Gea. In the previous campaign, the Spaniard was the Red Devils’ first choice in between the sticks. He pulled off some brilliant saves.
Unfortunately, the veteran goalkeeper was also error-prone. Also, with Ten Hag seemingly keen on playing the ball out from the back, the 32-year-old looked uncomfortable and left a lot to be desired in the previous campaign.

Onana is familiar with the Dutch manager’s ideas and style of play. The 27-year-old made a case for himself in the UCL final with some impressive distribution. However, whether the Cameroonian will succeed De Gea at the Old Trafford side remains to be seen.
