Dimitar Berbatov feels Jadon Sancho deserves a chance at Manchester United
Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov believes Jadon Sancho deserves to be at the Old Trafford side for another season to showcase his talents.
The England international made his way to the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 from Borussia Dortmund for £72.9 million. However, so far, he has failed to live up to that price tag.
As a result, Erik ten Hag has grown frustrated with the 23-year-old. A departure from the Manchester-based club in the ongoing transfer window has not been ruled out,
However, speaking to Betfred (h/t Manchester Evening News), Berbatov, who spent four fruitful years at United, feels the Red Devils should not rush to make a decision regarding the former Borussia Dortmund star’s future.
“I do believe it would be premature to sell Jadon. I think he needs at least one more season at the club to prove what he can do and show everybody that he still possesses all the qualities we saw from him at Borussia Dortmund.”
United have not seen the true potential of Sancho yet. The winger made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester City before making his way to Germany. At the Signal Iduna Park side, the English national developed and thrived. He became one of the most threatening players in the final third of the pitch.
Unfortunately, the 23-year-old’s time at the Old Trafford side has been underwhelming so far. After disappointing in his debut campaign, the forward was unable to have much of an impact in the 2022/23 terms either.
Ten Hag has remained patient with Sancho and has given him multiple opportunities in various positions. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old has been inconsistent.
In comparison, Alejandro Garnacho has done a lot more when called upon. The Argentina international was electric and came in clutch on multiple occasions last season. In the FA Cup final, the 18-year-old’s performance off the bench outshone the former Dortmund star’s display.
