Manchester United are ‘interested’ in acquiring the services of Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer in the ongoing transfer window, according to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Erik ten Hag is keen on bolstering the backline this summer at the Old Trafford side. To that end, the Brazil international is on the Red Devils’ radar. We have also been linked with Napoli’s Kim Min-jae, Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber and AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi.

However, the Bianconeri’s 26-year-old is also being eyed by the Manchester-based club now. It remains to be seen who will provide reinforcement to our defence in the coming months.

Juventus signed Bremer in the summer of 2022 from Torino. The Brazilian was named Serie A defender of the year in the 2021/2022 campaign. Subsequently, the Old Lady pounced on his signature.

In the centre-back’s debut season at the Allianz Stadium side, he has been ever-present for them. The 26-year-old made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Bianconeri, scoring five goals and providing one assist.

However, the Serie A giants have not enjoyed the best of seasons. Massimiliano Allegri’s team finished seventh in the league table.

For now, United have enough depth at the back. While Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane seem to be Erik ten Hag’s go-to options, the gaffer can also call upon the likes of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

The Swedish national has been especially impressive whenever the Dutch manager has had to count on him. Also, the former Ajax head coach used Luke Shaw as a centre-back on a few occasions to good effect in the previous campaign.

Therefore, it does not look like bolstering the central defensive area is a priority for us as long as everyone stays put. Thus, we evidently do not need Bremer in our squad for now.
