Manchester United have set a price tag of £2 million to part ways with Eric Bailly in the ongoing transfer window, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Ivory Coast international spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Olympique Marseille. However, the 29-year-old was unable to cement his place in the Ligue 1 outfit’s starting lineup.

In order to make the defender’s move permanent, the French outfit had a €7 million option. But Les Phoceens decided against buying the centre-back.

United signed Bailly in the summer of 2016 from Villarreal for £30 million. It looks like the Old Trafford side will take a big hit in order to get the Ivorian off their books this summer.

The defender has underwhelmed during his time at the Red Devils. Over the years, fitness issues have hampered the 29-year-old’s game time and opportunities at the Manchester-based club.

At Marseille, Bailly was unable to reinvigorate his career. The centre-back was a bit-part player in Igor Tudor’s team and started in just five league matches for the Ligue 1 outfit.

As things stand, United have an abundance of talent in their backline. Erik ten Hag has the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at his disposal. The two World Cup winners were heavily trusted by the gaffer in the previous campaign.

Victor Lindelof also played a key role towards the end of last season. With Martinez on the sidelines, the Swedish national did a decent job. Luke Shaw was also deployed centrally by the Dutch manager on a few occasions. The former Ajax head coach can also call upon Harry Maguire for now.

Therefore, at the moment, Bailly is seemingly surplus to requirements at the Old Trafford side. His valuation seems fair considering the Ivorian’s performances in recent years. It remains to be seen who will end up acquiring the defender this summer.
