Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is reluctant to leave the club in the summer transfer window
According to talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United captain Harry Maguire wants to stay at the club and fight for his place amid speculations surrounding his future.
There were earlier claims that Maguire might look for a move out in the summer having fallen down the pecking order under Erik Ten Hag.
A starter under previous managers, Ten Hag has made it clear that he does not see England International as part of his long-term project.
Maguire is arguably the fifth choice centre back at the club with full-back Luke Shaw being preferred to the club captain on many occasions.
Clearly, he needs to move in order to revive his career which has not been since his move to United from Leicester City in a world-record deal for a central defender.
United had hoped that the signing of Maguire from Leicester will have a similar impact for the club as Virgil Van Dijk did for Liverpool and how the Dutch international elevated the level of the team.
It did not work out exactly in the same manner and many deficiencies in Maguire’s game were laid bare when he moved from a team which defends throughout the game to one which is expected to have control and possession in most of the games.
Ten Hag is keen on bringing another central defender in the summer window with SSC Napoli defender Kim Min-Jae touted as the primary target.
However, it is prudent that the club raises funds through player sales and Maguire provides an opportunity for the club to recoup some amount from the huge investment made on the player.

Ten Hag will be furious if Maguire ends up staying post the summer window and is happy to sit on the bench and take his weekly paycheck. It would definitely show how wrong the recruitment team were in assessing the character of the current club captain.
