Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have withdrawn from the race for Manchester United target and Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, according to RMC Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Parisians have been discouraged by the price tag that has been placed on the South Korea international. As a result, the Parc des Princes side have decided not to move any further in their pursuit to acquire the centre-back’s services.

As things stand, the Partenopei are demanding £50 million to part ways with the 26-year-old in the upcoming transfer window. It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will opt to spend that much.

Napoli signed Min-jae in the summer of 2022 from Fenerbahce. The Italian outfit replaced Kalidou Koulibaly, who left for Chelsea, with the South Korean.

In his debut season at the Naples-based club, the defender has been a crucial member of the team. The Partenopei have been impressive for most of the season and have secured the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades.

At PSG, Christophe Galtier has had to rely on Sergio Ramos and Marquinhos as the only two established centre-backs available. Danilo Pereira has often deputised in defence due to Presnel Kimpembe being on the sidelines for most of the campaign.

At United, Erik ten Hag possesses a lot of depth in the backline. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been the gaffer’s preferred duo. But he can also call upon Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Our captain and the Swedish national have fallen down the pecking order this season. On some occasions, Luke Shaw has played centrally and has done well.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see Maguire or Lindelof looking for pastures new come next summer. In that case, we will evidently need reinforcements at the back. Thus, Min-jae is a great option to have on our radar.
