Erik ten Hag eyeing third-place finish after Manchester United batter Chelsea
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is eyeing a third-place finish in the league table after securing a place in the top four with the 4-1 win over Chelsea.
In the Red Devils’ penultimate Premier League game of the season, Frank Lampard’s team were battered. The Old Trafford side were ruthless in front of goal and scored four past the Blues, who looked out of sorts.
With the victory, United have clinched the third spot. However, Newcastle United are just two points behind us as things stand. Thus, the final fixture of the campaign against Fulham is going to be important.
Speaking to the media via the club’s official website, Ten Hag has urged the players not to put their foot off the gas after securing a place in next season’s Champions League.
“It’s important, Sunday, we still can be third in the league. It’s important to keep [our] focus [and] not get injuries as well. So it gives us good goals for Sunday.”
The Dutch manager has managed to turn things around admirably at United in a short span of time. At the end of the previous campaign, the former Ajax head coach was appointed in the Old Trafford side’s dugout.
Ten Hag has brought back some form of success to the Manchester-based club. We won the Carabao Cup earlier in the season to end our six-year trophy drought.

Subsequently, the Red Devils have also made it to the FA Cup final, where our opponents will be arch-rivals Manchester City. But getting into the top four is evidently one of the most important objectives of the season.
Chelsea were all over the place in the drubbing. Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marus Rashford got on the scoresheet for United. Joao Felix scored towards the end of the game to deny David de Gea a clean sheet.
