Brandom Williams is being eyed up by Italian side Fiorentina for a loan move
As per Italian outlet Tuttomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Serie A side Fiorentina are looking to sign young Manchester United defender Brandon Williams on loan this summer.
After a promising loan period at Norwich City last season, Williams might have been hoping for some game time in the current campaign.
But, the 22-year-old has only managed to play five minutes of first-team football under Erik ten Hag this season. An unknown injury kept him out of action from last summer till December. He was delighted to come back and play some games for the youth side back then.
Williams’ contract at Old Trafford expires next summer, with an option for an extra year (Transfermarkt). United are willing to let him go this summer. Fiorentina can sign him on loan for now with an option to make the move permanent for €5m next year.
The Englishman is a versatile fullback who can play both on the right and left. United are well-stocked in that department with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot sharing minutes on the right and Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia doing well on the other side. Shaw has played as a centre-back at times as well.
So, it would make sense for the club to let go of Williams, who is still young and can kickstart his career somewhere with regular game time.
A busy summer should be ahead for the Red Devils. They must sign a striker to add substance to the forward line. Ten Hag has reiterated that fact. The reliance on Marcus Rashford to score all the goals needs to stop if the team gets closer to Manchester City in the league next season.

Sentiments and emotions should have no place when rebuilding this great team. It has been a stellar first season under Ten Hag, who has been brutal with his team selection calls so far. The aim is to build on it and trim the squad of players that won’t make it here in the short and the long run.
