Manchester United star Victor Lindelof is quite ‘unhappy’ at the Old Trafford side after falling down the pecking order this season, according to InterLive (h/t Manchester Evening News).

As a result, the defender’s future at the Red Devils is unclear ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Back in March, the Sweden international had admitted that he would be “assessing his options” next summer.

This season, Erik ten Hag has preferred the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the backline. The two World Cup winners have been pivotal to the gaffer’s plans in the current campaign.

The French and Argentine nationals have formed a solid duo in defence for United. However, the former Real Madrid star has been injury-prone since making his way to Manchester in the summer of 2021.

On the other hand, the former Ajax star picked up a season-ending injury against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. The 25-year-old’s absence has been a big blow for us.

In the last few weeks, Ten Hag has played the likes of Harry Maguire, Lindelof and Luke Shaw centrally. However, all three of them have made a few errors at the back.

But the Sweden international has kept his place in the centre-back position. The 28-year-old seems to be the Dutch manager’s preferred third choice.

Yet, the former SL Benfica star has spent most of his time on the bench since the former Ajax head coach’s arrival. In the current campaign, the defender has made 32 appearances in all competitions, but he has started in just 12 games in the league.

Lindelof will evidently be a key player in the final few fixtures of the season with Martinez out. However, it remains to be seen whether the Swedish national will stay at the Old Trafford side beyond the current campaign.
