Real Sociedad ‘confident’ of keeping Manchester United target Martin Zubimendi
La Liga outfit Real Sociedad are ‘confident’ of keeping hold of Manchester United target Martin Zubimendi next summer, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have been linked with the midfielder ahead of the upcoming transfer window. However, it looks like the Reale Arena side are not concerned about losing him anytime soon.
Over the years, the 24-year-old has developed into one of the best enforcers in the Spanish top flight. As such, the Old Trafford side have been frequently associated with his signature.
Zubimendi has made his way through the youth ranks at Real Sociedad. Then, in the 2019/20 season, the midfielder broke into the Basque club’s first team.
Subsequently, the Spain international has become a crucial player for the Reale Arena side. In the current campaign, the 24-year-old has been impressive as Imanol Alguacil’s team look to secure a place in the top four.
United witnessed Zubimendi’s talent first-hand during the group stages of the Europa League. The Spaniard played the full 90 minutes home and away for Real Sociedad against the Red Devils. In the end, the La Liga outfit ended at the top of the group.
Last summer, the Old Trafford side signed Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Brazil international has added much-needed quality to the Manchester-based club’s engine room. He has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred option in the midfield pivot alongside Christian Eriksen.
However, on the bench, only Fred and Scott McTominay have been available to back up the two 31-year-olds. Unfortunately, they leave a lot to be desired in that position when playing.

Therefore, we could evidently do with a good understudy for Casemiro in the squad. However, it remains to be seen whether United will be able to pry Zubimendi away from La Real.
