Louis Saha urges Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea to “improve”
Former Manchester United ace Louis Saha has urged the Old Trafford side’s shot-stopper David de Gea to improve in order to secure his future at the club.
The 32-year-old has seen his form dip in recent weeks. In the last few matches, the Spaniard has showcased his frailties with the ball at his feet and has also lacked concentration.
Speaking to the OLBG (h/t Manchester Evening News), Saha, who spent four years at United, does not want to see De Gea part ways with the Red Devils as of yet.
“It’s not David De Gea’s time to leave Man United, but to rather improve. De Gea has to improve if he wants to remain in this club.”
In the summer of 2011, the Old Trafford side signed the goalkeeper from Atletico Madrid. Since then, the Spaniard has mostly been the number one at the Manchester-based club.
There was a time when the 32-year-old was considered as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world. However, after the 2018 World Cup, the veteran seemed to lose his confidence.
Dean Henderson looked set to pip De Gea in the pecking order. But the Spaniard got back to his best last season and was crowned United’s Player of the Year. As a result, due to a lack of minutes, the English national joined Nottingham Forest on loan last summer.
With the arrival of Erik ten Hag, the shot-stopper has had to adapt a bit. The Dutch manager seemingly likes to play out from the back. But the 32-year-old leaves a lot to be desired in that regard.
However, on the bench, the gaffer has the likes of Tom Heaton and Jack Butland. Unfortunately, with all due respect, the two English nationals are not up to the Red Devils’ standards.

Thus, De Gea evidently lacks competition in the squad for a place in between the sticks. However, will the addition of a quality number two motivate the Spaniard to become better? Only time will tell.
