Napoli defender Kim Min-jae ‘close’ to Manchester United transfer
Kim Min-jae, who plays for Serie A giants Napoli, is ‘close’ to signing for Manchester United ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to CalcioNapoli24.
The Red Devils are set to pay the defender’s €60 million release clause. As a result, the Partenopei are resigned to losing the South Korea international next summer.
In the summer of 2022, the 26-year-old signed for the Naples-based club. However, intermediaries have convinced the centre-back to make a switch from the Italian outfit after just a year to the Old Trafford side.
Min-jae was signed by Napoli as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly. He joined Chelsea last summer. However, the South Korean has not let the Senegal international’s presence be felt.
Luciano Spalletti’s team have secured the Scudetto in the current campaign. The Partenopei have got their hands on the Serie A title after over three decades.
In their bid to secure the title, the 26-year-old has been pivotal for the Italian outfit. He has made 43 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
United have relied on Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the defence in the current campaign. Erik ten Hag has preferred the French and Argentine nationals partnership at the Manchester-based club.
However, in their absence, the Old Trafford side have not been secure at the back. The former Ajax star was ruled out for the rest of the term after being injured in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals versus Sevilla. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof come into the team but have left a lot to be desired for the Red Devils.
