Wolves ‘ready’ for £45 million sale of Barcelona and Manchester United target Ruben Neves
Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) are ‘ready’ to listen to offers of around £45 million for Barcelona and Manchester United target Ruben Neves, according to talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are interested in acquiring the services of the 26-year-old ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Erik ten Hag wants a quality ball-playing midfielder in his ranks next summer.
However, the Blaugrana are also in the race for the Portugal international. The midfielder is keen on joining the Camp Nou side. However, the La Liga outfit have not made an offer for him yet.
Neves joined the Molineux Stadium side in the summer of 2017 from FC Porto. However, after several years at the West Midlands-based club, the 26-year-old is prepared to quit with his current contract expiring at the end of next season.
The Portuguese has been a key player for Wolves campaign after campaign. After helping them attain promotion to the Premier League, the midfielder has been pivotal in the Molineux Stadium side’s bid to secure their status in the English top flight.
Barcelona have an abundance of talent in the middle of the park as things stand. The Blaugrana can call upon the likes of Frenkie De Jong, Pedri and Gavi. Xavi also has Frank Kessie and Sergi Roberto at his disposal.
As for United, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen seem to be the only top-class midfielders in our ranks. When either of them have been absent for the Red Devils this season, we have struggled.
Ten Hag has Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek as his backups in the engine room. However, they have been inconsistent during their time in Manchester. Although Marcel Sabitzer has done well recently, the Austrian is on loan at the club from Bayern Munich.

Therefore, we evidently need to bolster our midfield ranks next summer to have a competitive team. Neves has showcased his quality at Wolves and has experience in the PL. But it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will trump us to the 26-year-old’s signature.
