Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to hold talks with Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst over future
Wout Weghorst, who is on loan at Manchester United from Burnley, will speak with Vincent Kompany at the end of the season regarding his future.
The Holland international signed for the Red Devils in the previous transfer window on a temporary move. But as things stand, the 30-year-old is expected to go back to the Turf Moor side at the conclusion of the campaign.
Speaking via The Mirror (h/t The Sun), Kompany, who has led Burnley to automatic promotion to the Premier League from the Championship this season, will sit down and have a conversation with the striker in the coming months.
“The most important thing for me – and it’s a tough one for me to say obviously because of the Cup Final – is for him personally to finish the season on a high. But still, I want him to do well and we will have the conversation.”
Weghorst signed for Burnley in January 2022 from Wolfsburg. In Germany, the Holland international had established himself as a prolific goalscorer.
However, at the Lancashire-based club, the forward was unable to make a mark and help them survive relegation. Subsequently, the attacker joined Besiktas on loan last summer.
After impressive displays in Turkey and the 2022 World Cup, United brought the 30-year-old to Manchester to provide cover up front for the injury-prone Anthony Martial.
The French national has had fitness issues since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. As a result, the gaffer has been unable to rely on the 27-year-old to lead the line at the Old Trafford side.
As a result, Weghorst has enjoyed a lot of game time over the last few months at United. However, while the Holland international work rate and dedication have been admirable, he leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.
