Manchester United ‘in the mix’ for Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez
Manchester United are one of the Premier League teams ‘in the mix’ to acquire the services of Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez, according to TYC Sports reporter Gaston Edul (h/t Mirror).
The Red Devils have entered the fray for the Argentina international. Apart from the Old Trafford side, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race for the shot-stopper should he decide to leave the Villans next summer.
In the upcoming transfer window, the 30-year-old is contemplating a switch from the Villa Park side. However, Spurs are the ones currently leading the race for him.
However, Martinez is a former Arsenal player. Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether the Argentine will consider a move to the Gunners’ arch-North London rivals.
After spending a decade on Arsenal’s books, the 30-year-old joined Villa in the summer of 2021. Since then, the goalkeeper’s stock has only grown, especially after helping La Albiceleste lift the Copa America and the World Cup.
Martinez was the hero for Argentina in the final against France. The shot-stopper pulled off a crucial save in the final minutes and came out on top in the penalty shootout.
At the moment, David de Gea is the number one at United. However, the Spaniard’s existing deal at the club is set to expire at the end of the season.
Apart from the 32-year-old, the Red Devils have Tom Heaton and Jack Butland in their ranks. However, with all due respect, the two English nationals are not up to the Old Trafford side’s standards.

Therefore, we will evidently need to think about the goalkeeping department if De Gea leaves. Martinez is a world-class shot-stopper with a winning pedigree. But will Erik ten Hag opt to sign the Argentine next summer? Only time will tell.
