Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber looking for “right fit” amidst Manchester United interest

Manchester United target Jurrien Timber is looking for the “right fit” as he eyes a move from Ajax Amsterdam in the upcoming transfer window.

In the summer of 2022, the Red Devils were interested in acquiring the defender’s services. However, in the end, the Holland international opted to stay in Amsterdam to bolster his World Cup hopes.

Speaking to Ziggy Sport via Voetbal Primeur (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 21-year-old will not just move to any team. The style of play and silverware ambitions are going to influence the centre-back’s decision.

“For me it is the same situation as last season. If I say: I’m leaving, it has to fit. Playing style is important, playing minutes… Participating in the prizes is also important. My favourite country? I dare not say that.”

This bodes well for United. Timber made his way through the youth ranks at Ajax. Subsequently, it was the Red Devils’ manager, Erik ten Hag, that gave the Holland international his break at the Eredivisie outfit.

The 21-year-old subsequently became a pivotal member of the Amsterdam-based club’s starting lineup in the previous campaign. He partnered Lisandro Martinez in the backline at the Dutch team.

Now, the 2022 World Cup winner plays for the Old Trafford side. Ten Hag reunited with the Argentina international last summer. The 25-year-old has brought much-needed quality to the Manchester-based club’s defence.

Martinez and Raphael Varane have been the Dutch manager’s preferred duo at United. The Argentine and French nationals have steadied the ship at the back to a certain extent for us.

We also have Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in our ranks. Our skipper and the Swedish national have lost their place in the team in the current campaign.

Therefore, if the Red Devils’ centre-back area loses a few players, we will evidently need to add reinforcements. Timber is familiar with Ten Hag and the gaffer’s ideas. But it remains to be seen whether the Holland international will move to the Old Trafford side next summer.
