Manchester United ‘set their sights’ on Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski
Manchester United have ‘set their sights’ on Napoli star Piotr Zielinski to bolster the middle of the park ahead of next summer, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 28-year-old has been identified as the main target for the Red Devils in the upcoming transfer window. Erik ten Hag is keen on adding the Polish national to the Old Trafford side’s squad.
However, Zielinski has no intention of parting ways with the Partenopei. But an attractive offer from the Manchester-based club could change the midfielder’s mind.
The 28-year-old has been at the Naples-based club since the summer of 2016. During his time with the Italian giants, the Polish national has been ever-present in their starting lineup.
Napoli finally got over the monkey off their back and secured the Serie A title this season after over three decades without one. Luciano Spalletti’s team have blown away the competition in the league.
Zielinski has been a crucial part of that success. The Polish national has made 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists.
United’s midfield double pivot has been dominated by Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the current campaign. Erik ten Hag has preferred the two in his team. However, in recent weeks, the two have not been at their best, leading to us struggling.
Also, during the Danish national’s time on the sidelines, the gaffer only had Fred and Scott McTominay at his disposal. In January, the Red Devils signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich to add depth in the middle of the park.

Zielinski is credited by WhoScored.com for being strong at creating opportunities in the final third with his key passes. The Old Trafford side could evidently do with someone like him in the squad. But will we pursue his signature next summer? Only time will tell.
