Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson expects to be back for pre-season after injury
Manchester United star Dean Henderson, who picked up an injury on loan at Nottingham Forest, expects to be back in action for pre-season after his surgery.
The 26-year-old joined the Tricky Trees on a temporary move in the summer of 2022. However, after suffering a tear in his thigh against Leicester City in January, where Steve Cooper’s team won 2-0, the shot-stopper’s campaign has been cut short.
Taking to Instagram (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Henderson revealed that he would miss the rest of the season. However, the England international is optimistic about returning in the coming months.
“I’m disappointed to miss the rest of the season but surgery went well and I will be back for pre season. I will be supporting the boys for the remainder of the season!! Let’s go YOU REDS.”
The 26-year-old had been enjoying an impressive campaign at Forest. He was Cooper’s first choice in the starting lineup and put in some clutch performances for the West Bridgford-based club.
This season, Henderson made 20 appearances in all competitions for the City Ground side, keeping six clean sheets. While the shot-stopper is set to return to parent club United next summer, the Tricky Trees are interested in getting him on a permanent transfer.
The City Ground side have identified acquiring the English national’s services as a priority. But Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur also have him on their radar.
As things stand, Cooper’s team are in the relegation zone. Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether the 26-year-old will opt to sign for the West Bridgford club if they drop to the Championship.
United have counted on David de Gea in between the sticks over the last two seasons. The Red Devils also have Tom Heaton and Jack Butland in their ranks. But the Spaniard is the undisputed starter, although he has made a few glaring errors in recent weeks.

Henderson is a decent goalkeeper to have in our ranks and he will likely start the pre-season at the Old Trafford side. In that case, will Erik ten Hag give him an opportunity to impress? Only time will tell. But we could evidently do with a healthy competition for De Gea in the squad.
