Manchester United are ‘keen’ on acquiring the services of LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David in the upcoming transfer window, according to L’Equipe via Caught Offside (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils have identified the signing of a quality striker next summer as a priority. Some of the names on the Old Trafford side’s wishlist include Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

However, David is also on United’s radar. But Premier League rivals Chelsea and Spurs are also eyeing the Canada international’s signature.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 outfit in the current campaign. Les Dogues are expected to demand £57 million to part ways with the striker in the coming months.

David joined Lille in the summer of 2020. Over the years, the centre-forward has grown from strength to strength. Currently, the Canadian is enjoying his best season under Paulo Fonseca in France.

The 23-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit in the current campaign. He has found the back of the net 23 times and has provided four assists. He is in direct competition with Kylian Mbappe for the Ligue 1 golden boot.

United’s attack has relied on Marcus Rashford since Erik ten Hag’s arrival. The 25-year-old has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack under the former Ajax head coach.

As things stand, the gaffer has Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst as the only two natural number nines in the squad. But both of them have been underwhelming this season.

Therefore, we evidently need to bolster our forward line next summer. David has established himself as a quality striker with Lille. The Canadian seems ready to take the next step in his career. But it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will land in England in the coming months.
