Erik ten Hag sees Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia as replacement for Casemiro at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag sees Southampton star Romeo Lavia as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, according to the Independent (h/t Metro).
The former Ajax head coach likes the former Manchester City youngster. As a result, the Belgium international is being monitored by the Red Devils.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will pursue the 19-year-old’s signature. For now, the Manchester-based club will prioritise the addition of a number nine, a right-back and an established midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

Lavia made his way through the academy at Anderlecht before making his way to City. After developing in the Sky Blues’ youth sides, the Belgian joined Southampton last summer.
With the Saints, the youngster has put in some impressive displays and has caught a lot of people’s attention. The defensive midfielder has been pivotal for the Hampshire-based club. Although, they are battling relegation as things stand.
Nonetheless, the 19-year-old has shone during an overall disappointing campaign for Southampton. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Saints, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

United signed Casemiro in the summer of 2022. The Brazil international has been key to Ten Hag’s plans in Manchester. Without the midfield enforcer in the team, we have not looked our best.
Scott McTominay and Fred have been relegated to the bench in the current campaign. However, the two have been inconsistent when deputising in the absence of the former Real Madrid star.

Thus, adding quality in depth is evidently something the Red Devils should consider. While Casemiro has been world-class, he is not getting any younger. Bringing Lavia in as an understudy to the Brazilian will be a wise move on our part.
