Vincent Kompany set to have conversation with Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst regarding Burnley future
Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany is set to have a conversation with on-loan Manchester United star Wout Weghorst regarding his future.
The Holland international joined the Red Devils on a temporary move from the Clarets until the end of the season. However, it remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old’s transfer will be a permanent option for the Old Trafford side next summer.
Speaking to Lancs Live (h/t Manchester Evening News), Kompany is focused on ending the current campaign at the moment. However, the former Manchester City defender is looking forward to the talks with Weghorst.
“He has his goals, he wants United to be in the Champions League and he wants to win the FA Cup if possible. We have our own goals, we still want to get the trophy over the line, but the moments will happen and I’m looking forward to having that conversation.”
Burnley have thrived under the management of the ex-defender. He took charge of the Turf Moor side in the summer of 2022 and has secured automatic promotion for the Championship outfit.
Weghorst joined the Clarets in January 2022. However, the former Wolfsburg star’s addition to the Lancashire-based club’s squad was not enough to keep them in the English top flight.
Subsequently, last summer, the Holland international went to Besiktas on loan. At the Turkish outfit, the 30-year-old thrived. The striker also caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays in the 2022 World Cup as an impact substitute.
Then, in January, United acquired Weghorst’s services. Due to Anthony Martial’s injury issues, the striker has played a pivotal role for Erik ten Hag.
The French national has been in and out of the team since the Dutch manager’s arrival at the Old Trafford side’s dugout. Therefore, the Holland international’s addition to the squad has been important.
