Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho wants to play U20 World Cup for Argentina
18-year-old Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has decided that he wants to be a part of the Argentina squad for the U20 World Cup, according to journalist Damian Villagra on Twitter (h/t The Sun).
The youth tournament is set to kick off in the 18-year-old’s home country on 20 May. However, the Red Devils’ season will still be ongoing at that point.
As of yet, neither the South American team nor the Old Trafford side have confirmed the winger’s situation. At the moment, he is out injured but is expected to be back in action before the end of the campaign.
United were knocked out by Sevilla from the Champions League after losing 3-0 in the second leg of the quarter-finals. However, the Red Devils are still alive in the FA Cup, having beaten Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties in the final.
The Old Trafford side are also in the race for the top four. We are in fourth place for now, with Tottenham Hotspur six points behind us. And the North London side are set to welcome us next in the Premier League.
Garnacho has broken onto the scene at United this season. Initially, the youngster struggled to make his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans. But the forward has now become an integral part of the squad.
The 18-year-old has put in some clutch performances for the Red Devils over the last few months, scoring some late goals. He has been effective coming off the bench on several occasions.
If the Argentine were to leave for the U20 World Cup, United would be without him for some crucial league matches. The winger would also miss the FA Cup final against Manchester City on 3 June.

United are already facing an injury crisis in the squad. Anything can happen fitness-wise to our forward’s between now and the end of the season. Therefore, it would be wise for us to hold onto the Argentine. The 18-year-old has a lot of time to make a name for himself with La Albiceleste.
